Today we had a surprise visit from Mr Pansters from Room 15. He used to teach some of us last year. He told us a really funny story.
After he had gone we dyed our cinquain leaves.
We also did leaf rubbings. Ms Fothergill is going to assemble the dyed leaves, leaf rubbings and real leaves together into one big display. We hope our parents will be proud of our work.
Today we got to play around with the Star Trek version of Augmented Reality. Anyone wanting to try this at home can watch the video…
… and then play with it at this website: http://www.experience-the-enterprise.com/ww/. You will need to have a working webcam and will probably have to update some activex drivers to experience this.
Today we introduced a new routine – One student has the camera for the day and takes photos on and off during the day.
Today’s photographer was Ben. He seemed to get lots of photos to do with reading. Ms F has made two different types of animations with some of his photos.
We made a video today. We took the photos and wrote a sentence about them. Then we used Ms F’s cell phone to record ourselves speaking our sentences. Then Ms F put the photos and sound together to make our first real movie. We hope you enjoy it.
At school we have been talking about Our Place, Our Space.
This week we brainstormed the different places we like to go to at school.
Then we walked around the school and took photos of all those places.
Some people like other rooms because their friends or their siblings were in those rooms. Someone even liked the Dental Clinic! Some people liked special parts of our classroom like the reading corner or the couch. Ms Fothergill really likes the couch!
While Ms F was at the Learning@School conference she learned about 5 frame digital story telling. Ms F and Mrs M took some photos to tell a story. When Room 10 looked at the photos they came up with all the things they thought could be happening in each photo.

On Friday six people from each school in Kapiti went to the library to talk to Stacy Moore from the Department of Conservation about New Zealand native
birds.
She talked to us about an albatross that had swallowed some rubbish and was going to die. She talked to us about bird calls and she let us listen to some bird calls on the stereo.
We got to hold some frozen animals and we talked about some predators.
At the end we asked some questions and then we left.
This week on Wednesday in room 10 we had a small goodbye party for a girl in our class because she was going back to Germany to live.We ate grapes, popcorn and biscuits.Even though it was a sad time it was also good fun!
